Mind-Full-Ness

Digital format video (colour, sound,1 min 34 sec)
2024

East Asian women are portrayed as sweet, well-mannered, obedient and submissive. Being expressive is regarded as mad and hysteric. I pursue calmness at all times. Japanese paper marbling and handpan music are excellent for meditation purposes. In this experimental video, I confronted my vulnerable self and spinning mind under a calm face for true mindfulness.

In the culture I grew up in, I was always asked to hide my emotions and avoid disturbing others. While presenting the beauty of Zen through paper marbling, the repeating black circles represent uncontrollable and recurring thoughts, carrying a hint of oppressiveness. I am silent but let water speak.
